Today is Groundhog Day and I thought you all might enjoy reading some fun facts about it. Let's see how many of these that you already know:1. Punxsutawney Phil weighs about 20 lbs. and is 22 inches long.
2. A groundhog can whistle when they are alarmed.
3. The 1st official Groundhog Day was celebrated on Feb. 2nd, 1886 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
4. German tradition has it that if the sun comes out on Candlemas, the precursor to Groundhog Day, the hedgehog will see its shadow & six more weeks of winter will follow. When the German settlers came to Pennsylvania they continued this tradition using groundhogs instead of hedgehogs to predict the weather.
5. Puxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow 97 times, not seen it 15 times and 9 years are unaccounted for.
Personally, I am hoping that Phil won't see his shadow, I'm ready for Spring!
