Pumpkin Masters Paint & Carve Pumpkin Decorating Kit Review

Halloween is just around the corner. Decorating the home for holidays has long been a favorite family fun tradition. Some of my best childhood memories include picking out our family's Halloween pumpkin and taking it home and carving it.
I enjoy passing down these family traditions to my own daughter. But, I also like finding new ways of carving and decorating our jack-o-lantern. At a recent visit to one of our local department stores I found this great kit from Pumpkin Masters. This is one of their newest kits, the Pain & Carve Pumpkin Decorating Kit and the cost: only $4.87!
So, what did I think?
The kit comes with complete instructions, 4 patterns, silver and black paint, 2 paint brushes, 1 carving saw, stencil sheets, 1 scraper scoop and silver push-in beads.
First, I like to lay out a trash bag on the table and underneath the pumpkin, I find this helps keep the mess to a minimum.
I carved a hole in the bottom of the pumpkin and began scraping out the "guts". The scraper scoop worked really well to clean out the insides and scoop out all the seeds. I wiped the pumpkin clean with a damp cloth.
Next, my daughter picked a pattern to use: A black cat sitting in a window. So, I trimmed the pattern and taped it to the pumpkin. The directions say to use the blunt end of a paintbrush or a dull pencil to transfer the pattern to the pumpkin surface. However, I have found it much easier to transfer using a pumpkin poker(you can find them in some of the other carving kits).
Then I held the pumpkin in my lap, you need to hold the saw like a pencil and very steadily saw up and down with even pressure. The saw is not very sturdy and can bend easily if you don't use it right.
Here's what the pattern looks like once it is carved out. Then it is time to paint the black areas and then the silver. The kit comes with a pouch of black and silver paint and 2 brushes to use. You can paint on additional features, in this case- a silver moon, with stencils. The kit also comes with silver push-in beads and I added those and thought it made it look like stars in the night sky. All that is left to do is place the carved pumpkin over a battery-operated light; I used a battery-operated flickering tea light.
What do you think of the finished creation?

My daughter loves the little black cat and has named it after herself. I think it turned out pretty good, even if I did do it(Ha, Ha). It was fairly simple and I definitely plan to try some of the other patterns.

*I am not affiliated in any way with Pumpkin Masters. I purchased this kit on my own for personal use. I was in no way compensated for this review and the opinions stated within this post are entirely my own. Pin It Now!
