8 Pairs of mittens
5 Scarves (two are scrap yarn)

It's a simple design that requires front post double crochet (fpdc) and back post double crochet (dpdc).

Pattern:

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn
I Hook

Ch 17.
Row 1. Dc in third ch from hook, dc in each ch across. Ch 2. Turn. (15 dc sts)
Row 2. Dc in first st, * fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st. Repeat from * to the last two sts in the row. Fpdc in second to last st, dc in last st. Ch 2. Turn.
Repeat Row 2 until the scarf is the desired length.

You can change the width of the scarf by changing the number of initial chain stitches. However, make sure the number of initial chains is odd, or else the pattern will no longer work.

For personal use only. Do not sell the final scarf or this pattern.

Surviving the Hurricane

So last night was an interesting night. The wind was howling and my heart was racing every time I heard even the slightest knock against the house. At around 10:30pm, I saw a flash of light and heard was sounded like a firecracker exploding - a transformer blowing, I presumed. I still had power, but the entire other side of the road didn't. Such strange power wiring in Maryland.

As the night creeped on, I thought that I might actually keep the power all through the storm, which would be a first. Unfortunately, this was not to be. At 2:30am, the power went out. It is actually quite frightening when you can't see anything, the wind screaming by and the trees all around your house straining to remain rooted. Eventually, the tendrils of sleep took hold, but only for a few hours.

At morning's light, I surveyed the damage. Four large tree limbs had collapsed on top of one another in my backyard. One punctured the lining of my pond and two brought down the phone and cable wires that run to my house. Who knows when I will have my power restored, much less my phone and television. Based on previous power outages, I'm betting on three days for the power and two or more weeks for the phone and cable.

What crazy times Maryland is having...

324 Donated Items!!

Life has been busy lately, with finishing graduate applications and the last fall semester of my undergraduate career not to mention the massive holiday rush on etsy. But since that has calmed down, I've had a bit of time to do some charity crocheting. Here are the spoils of my labor of love.

But I'd like to say some more things. One: If you are a bit of a math nerd (no shame in that :3) and tallied my donations from this and the last post, you'll find that it comes to 323. I converted my paper tally of my donations into an excel one and in doing so, discovered that my donations were actually 324. So I basically discovered that I can't count. All my 5s on the calc and stat AP exams and calc III in college have failed me. *hangs head*

Two: Crocheting for the next several months may be difficult given the amount of work I put on myself for this last spring semester. *sad panda*

Donated Items:
-1 baby blanket (the white one since in previous pictures)
-4 bibs
-3 earwarmers
-1 cat bed and cat mat
-2 stuffed animals
-7 pairs of mittens
-1 pair of booties
-4 scarves
-13 hats
-6 10" x 10" squares for a blanket

Also seen here are the four items my mom donated to ARC.

Cheers!

Needle Felting :: Cupcake Brooch Tutorial

To contact us Click HERE
Whilst at my aunties I learnt about needle felting and now it's my turn to teach it to you. I love brooches and cupcakes and so I made a cupcake brooch. It's really easy to do and once you've started you won't be able to stop. The materials you'll need are:
  • Felting Needles
  • An unused sponge
  • Felted wool
  • Strong glue
  • Brooch Back
1.Loosely fold together white 'felting wool' in a ball. Then lay it on the sponge and stab over the entire surface of the wool with a needle whilst trying to keep it a circular shape.2. Stab for at least 5 minutes for the wool to bind together. Add more wool if the surface is not even. 3.Choose the colour of 'felting wool' for the cupcake case and icing. 4.Then stab the Cupcake case wool to the white base. Add extra wool to create the shape whilst stabbing until flat and binded. TIP: You can tuck in the edges of the felt with the needle to create a sharper edge. 5.For the icing stab on a first layer of wool then add extra wool to create the shape, when flat and UN-fluffy it is done. 6. For the cherry roll a small ball of red 'felting wool' and stab it to the top of the cake. 7.Turn the white base over and stab the surface and sides to evenly felt any bumps. Stab the edges till evenly circular. 8. With strong glue adhere the brooch back to the back of the felted cupcake and leave to dry. Then you have create a cute felted brooch!----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I gave the brooch to my aunty as a present but I'm looking forward to making more. Maybe an owl, or camera, or a moustache brooch?! I hope you enjoyed the tutorial and I hope you have a lovely day. PEACE xo

My Screen Prints :: Cameras & Cupcakes

To contact us Click HERE
Hey, I created some new prints a few weeks ago as I love printing and they are all handmade from scratch, my own patterns and are limited edition. I created another funkier camera print in blue and tested out my new printing paints by printing cupcakes. The cupcakes didn't work as well as the paint was too liquidly. But I still like them.I've now had the idea of printing moustaches onto fabric to make moustache bags for my friends as they love moustaches. I hope you like the prints and there is a couple of the blue and black camera prints each which are up for sale. If anyone wishes to buy them please comment or email me. They are 100% limited edition, hand printed and my own patterns. Have a lovely day. Peace ox.Checkout my other handmade prints here and the tutorial.email: Beckybea@hotmail.co.uk
